Senior Citizen & Handicapped will Get Banking Service at Home

IndiaNewsonWeb: 11 Nov, 2017, Senior citizens will no longer have to bump into the banks for every small task. Reserve Bank of India has directed banks to provide banking facilities to senior citizens above 70 years of age and physically challenged persons at the door of their home till December this year. Banks have been directed to provide basic banking facilities such as cash deposit, check book and demand draft on senior citizens and physically disabled (including visually impaired) at their doorstep.

While issuing notification in this regard, the central bank said that it has been noticed that many times the banks discourage senior citizens and disabled people from taking banking facilities in the branches. The Reserve Bank said that senior citizens and physically challenged persons should make concerted efforts to provide banking facilities to banks. Banks have been asked to implement these instructions in accordance with word and spirit till December 31, 2017. The details of the bank branches and website should be made available.

Apart from this, the banks have been told that they will get their documents related to the Know Your Customer (KYC) and their life certificates from such customers by visiting them. The demand for senior citizens from the banks was being demanded for a long time. Especially for the people, because most bank branches do not have facilities for them, in many places banks are on the first or second floor, and there are not many special arrangements for the counters in banks.
