IndiaNewsonWeb: 14 Jun, 2017, A big decision has been taken about the reservation of women in the Cabinet meeting of the Punjab Government. According to sources, the decision to give 50% reservation to women in all the Municipal Corporations, Bodies and Panchayat elections being held in Punjab in this Cabinet meeting has been stamped. 33% Reservation will be given to women in all government departments from job to election. That is, now women will get reservations for women everywhere except assembly seats.

It is worth mentioning that in the first meeting of the Cabinet chaired by the Chief Minister of Punjab Amarinder Singh, it was said that 33 per cent reservation was given to women in all government jobs.

During the election campaign Punjab Congress had argued that the representation of women in Panchayati Raj Institutions and Local Body Institutes would be increased from 33 percent to 50 percent. Bihar is the first state in the country which has reserved 50 per cent reservation for women in Panchayat elections, after which many other states have also learned from Bihar.

There is a reservation of 33 percent for women in Uttar Pradesh's Panchayat elections, whereas 44 percent more women than this reservation are village heads. After this decision of Bihar in 2006, 55 per cent of those women had come elected as village chief. Explain that the Constitution of the country ensures 33 percent participation of women in Panchayati Raj system. Only 44 percent of the total elected Sarpanchs of the country are women.
