Modicare: Aadhaar may be used in National Health Protection Scheme

IndiaNewsonWeb: 05 Feb, 2018, The government can use the 'Aadhaar number' to implement 'National Health Protection Scheme' declared in health insurance so that its benefits are met to the right holders. With the help of Aadhaar card, the amount of insurance claim will be directly transferred to the account of the hospital through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

This has been done in the case of fertilizer subsidy before this. The Economic Times has quoted sources saying that during the discussions held in senior officials of the government to implement the scheme discussed in the name of 'ModiCare', it was also discussed that the Aadhaar card should be used for it.

It is noteworthy that section 7 of the Aadhaar Act states that if the consolidated fund of the Government of India is spent for any scheme, then it has to be linked with the Aadhaar. In order to raise Rs 11,000 crore for this scheme, the Finance Minister has imposed an additional cess of 1 per cent in the budget. Ajay Bhushan Pandey, CEO of UIDAI, said that the foundation could help in running such programs properly. Those who are deserving of entitlement will not have any difficulty in taking advantage of insurance.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had said in his budget speech that under the scheme, the health insurance cover of 10 million poor families, ie 50 crore people, will be given Rs 5 lakh annually.

Senior government officials say that such a huge scheme of 50 crore beneficiaries can not be implemented without Aadhaar. It is worth mentioning that the LPG subsidy which is available to around 14-15 million people has to be given only by the Aadhaar and DBT.

These will be Benefit

The advantage of the Aadhaar will be that it will provide a clean data base for the people and due to the Aadhaar card, any person will be treated immediately after reaching the hospital. This will prove to be very helpful in case of emergency or case treatment. Not only this, this will also prevent any kind of fraud.
