Airtel will Shut Down its 3G Service

IndiaNewsonWeb: 02 Nov, 2017, Bharti Airtel, the country's largest telecom company, can shut down its 3G network in the next three to four years and use spectrum connected to it for 4G services. Bharti Airtel Managing Director and CEO, Gopal Bitthal, gave this information.

He said, 'We are not spending almost anything on 3G. We are of the view that in the next three to four years, the 3G network may be closed.

Although the company is still very excited about its 2G network because 50 percent of sales in India are still feature phones. Bharti Airtel Managing Director said that the company is investing in 4G technology to increase the network's data capacity. The company will use 2100 Mhz band used for 3G services for 4G services.

Airtel is getting a tough competition in the telecom business due to the Reliance Jio launched a year ago, Airtel has not been able to increase its 4G business by accelerating faster than Reliance Jio has increased. From September 2016 to September 2017, Reliance Jio has added 13 million customers, while Airtel has only added 2.21 million new customers.
